Interchar 1120, 1160 and 1260 are single-component, water-borne intumescent coatings from International Protective Coatings, designed for onsite application to interior structural steelwork as passive fire protection. The coatings are low-VOC to zero-VOC, solvent-free and quick-drying, and expand when exposed to heat to insulate the steel and delay its temperature rise in a fire. Depending on the variant and the dry film thickness applied (approximately 200-700 microns), the coatings provide fire resistance periods ranging from about 60 to 120 minutes for interior structural steel. They are supplied in white and are used across commercial buildings, industrial facilities and other applications where aesthetic, low-VOC fire protection of steel is required.
